Tallahassee Police Arrest Juvenile in String of Facebook Marketplace Thefts
February 24, 2026
The Tallahassee Police Department has arrested a juvenile in connection to a series of thefts linked to Facebook Marketplace transactions that occurred at the Service Center on Highland Street.
After identifying similarities among five reported incidents, TPD detectives began coordinating the cases to determine whether they were connected. Through victim interviews, digital evidence analysis, and investigative follow-up, detectives established probable cause and identified a suspect. On February 19, investigators arrested the suspect in connection with five theft incidents that occurred between January 4 and February 17.
In each case, victims reported arranging to meet for what appeared to be a legitimate online transaction. Once at the agreed upon meetup location, the suspect took the property from the victims and fled the scene. During one instance, the victim fought back in trying to maintain possession of their property, but the suspect was able to overcome the victim’s attempt. The stolen items included iPhones, MacBook Pro, and laptop.
“This arrest reflects the focused and coordinated work of our detectives,” Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell said. “When patterns emerge, our investigators work carefully to build strong cases that ensure accountability. We remain committed to protecting residents and holding those who seek to exploit members of our community accountable.”
TPD has observed that incidents involving online marketplace transactions are often opportunistic in nature. In several recent cases, suspects have used legitimate platforms to arrange meetings before attempting to steal property from victims. These crimes typically rely on isolation and quick execution rather than prolonged interaction. Investigators encourage residents to take simple precautions when conducting online transactions, including meeting in well-lit public locations and utilizing designated Safe Exchange Zones to reduce risk.
TPD remains committed to investigating these crimes and holding those responsible accountable. Anyone with information about other recent thefts initiated through Facebook is asked to contact TPD at 850-891-4200. Individuals wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Solvers at 850-574-TIPS.
